When people think of the German philosopher Nietzsche, they often think of a misanthropic, bitter nihilist. It is true that Nietzsche was often critical of human nature and often pointed out the faults of societies, but he had another side which loved music, art and said amazingly wise things about love and friendship. Below I will quote some of the most moving ones. Enjoy and ponder!
“It is not the lack of love, but the lack of friendship which makes unhappy marriages”
“There is always some madness in love. But there is always some reason in madness”.
“Shared joys make friends. Not shared sufferings”
“There is not enough love and goodness in the world to permit giving any of it away to imaginary beings”
“Love is not consolation. It is Light”
Considering that Nietzsche didn’t have much luck with love in his own life, I’m rather amused.
Yes, becomes a bit ironic, doesn’t it? But his ideas were interesting 🙂
Fina och tänkvärda citat! 🙂
Ja, visst är de? 🙂
Tack för kommentaren!
“Each day I count wasted in which there has been no dancing”
Who can’t love a philosoper who says this?
Good post, not enough Nietzsche-love around (or Nietzsche-laughter?)
Yep, hard not to love a philosopher who has such lust for life! (At times).
Good quote you have there! Nietzsche had brilliant quotes on music and arts as well. I especially like: “Life without Music is a mistake”. 🙂
Yes, I think it’s important to also talk about Nietzsches more “positive” ideas and thoughts as well. And some good, sweet old quotes on love are always great to read about 🙂
Interesting enough. Though Nietzche endured the hardships of his own time, never allowed, as it seems to me, hardness in his heart….Nietzche: a great soul, a free spirit, an out of time sharp-minded thinker infinite in dialectical resources. Ave Nietzsche.
True 🙂 Nietzche faced many hardships. Yet even if he could be cynical at times, he could also be fairly optimistic as well.
