Here’s a petition for stopping a stoning of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani in Iran. She’s going to be stoned for adultery. She received lashes for it before but now is going to be hanged (this is a update from the stoning, but still please go to the site to save her life). Click here to sign:

What’s interesting is that Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani’s family has been fighting for her. Usually women in Iran accused for adultery are abandoned by their relatives. Her son wrote a letter pleading for his mother’s release. Now he’s been asked by authorities not to speak to anyone from the media and to keep his cell phone turned off. Here’s a link to an article on this case from “The Guardian”:

Update to this link: I read in the guardian today (26/07/2010) that Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani’s (the woman this petition was for) lawyer’s family (wife and brother-in-law) are now being held by the Iranian authorities. The lawyer himself, Mohammad Mostafaei, has had his office in Tehran ransacked. He was also interrogated for four hours in Evin prison on Saturday over his human right activities and involvement with Ashtiani’s case. Ouch.

Update: The Guardian wrote a new article about Ashtiani. They also wrote about another woman, Mariam Ghorbanzadeh, who’s been sentenced to death for adultery. She’s pregnant which means they can’t execute her. So the authorities are trying to get her to miscarry so that they can hang her. Here’s the link.

Update: She’s out of prison now! Read about that here.
