Bill Hicks was one of the important comedians who “rewrote” what and how comedy was to operate, and how it was to make us laugh. Its uncomfortable-ness was by making us laugh and critique ourselves as complicit in the mechanisms of control.
Would love a run-down on the short (I guess he died very early) career of this ground-breaking comic.
While responding to your great post on Taslima Nasrin I had to put one more thought here on the Hicks quote which has been rattling around in my brain. For myself, and as happens much too often, the quote would be more along these lines:
“I don’t mean to sound cold or cruel or vicious, but I really no sense of what I sound like when I speak”
Ha, ha 😀 Så kul quote!
